Remo, Post, Cost, Daz, Ezo, Tric, Left Manhattan 2010 Olympus digital  The storefront riot gate is  one of NYC’s most over looked  fixture:  New York’s unnoticed wallpaper often shows it true colors at night when the stores and streets quiet down for nightly rest, but on some days you may be lucky enough to catch an old one rolled down for the public to see.. Riot gates across the city have some of the oldest tags still running and preserve the fleeting presence and stories of multiple generations of graffiti writers from NYC and around the world. The city in 2009 made these kinds of gates illegal in an effort to deter “to deter vandals from spray-painting the flat surfaces of the old gates” and “beautify the neighborhood”. Replacing these old gates are models often found in suburban strip-malls which allow viewers to see into the shops; by 2026 all old gates are to be phased out and with it lot of history will be lost.
